Event description

This event is free for military/veterans/family members. Please email anna@turing.io to receive instructions on how to reserve your free ticket.

Hey Colorado Springs! Have you ever thought about becoming a software developer? The Turing School of Software & Design, located in Denver, CO, is a 7 month, in person, full-time school with a proven track record of turning great people into outstanding software developers. We are bringing a Try Coding Workshop to Colorado Springs to introduce you to the basics of coding and share how you can launch a career in the booming tech industry.

Our 900+ alumni come from all kinds of backgrounds including food service and hospitality, military, education, sales, customer service and retail, IT, and so much more. You don’t need years of experience in math and technology, or even a bachelor’s degree to start a career in the tech industry, successful programmers are usually open-minded problem solvers who can work collaboratively.

Does this sound like you? You can try coding and Turing when you attend this two day workshop.

  • Saturday, February 8: 10:00am - 4:30pm

  • Sunday, February 9: 10:00am - 4:30pm

  • During lunch each day, there will be a Turing School Informational Q&A session with alumni, current students, and staff. Bring your questions!

Additional information on workshop location, parking and logistics are located at the bottom of this page. Lunch is included with your ticket purchase.

What You Will Learn?

Back-End Engineering

On this day, we'll cover how to navigate around your computer using the terminal, read and write files, and write your own command line applications. We'll cover how the internet works, variables, if statements, and looping using the Ruby programming language.

Front-End Engineering

On the second day, you'll learn the basics of front-end engineering. We'll cover HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You'll learn how to create, style, and add interactivity to web pages.

Why You, Why Now?

Because you have absolutely nothing to lose! If you've ever thought about it - try it. Don't waste another day, come explore with us. Please note, this is a fast-paced, entry level course. Before attending you should be comfortable with navigating the basic operations of a computer; such as copying and pasting text, navigating the internet through a browser and typing.

If you attend the workshop and decide to apply to Turing School, you'll receive $500 off the cost of your tuition if you're accepted.

Don't see the answer you need below? Questions? Contact Anna Kummerlowe at anna@turing.io

1. Is Turing opening a campus in Colorado Springs?

No, we are still one campus located in Denver, Colorado. However, many students move to Denver for the program, then move back to their hometown's or somewhere else to work as a software developer. Our Career Services team supports graduates and alumni in their job hunt in any city.

2. Do I need to bring a computer?

You will need a computer for this class. It does not matter what the operating system is as long as you are able to access the internet through a browser. However, if you do not have one, a limited number of loaner computers are available for the class. Contact anna@turing.io if you need to reserve a loaner.

3. Is the space accessible?

Yes and the workshop will be on the main floor of Epicentral.

4. I want to attend but I can't afford it. Are there any scholarships available?

We are offering scholarships on a limited basis for students with financial need. Please contact anna@turing.io for more information.

5. Where should I park?

There are several parking lots within a few blocks of a walk from the coworking space that require a small fee on weekend days. Additionally, there is free street parking on many streets near the venue. Please do not park at the metered parking as you would need to move your car every hour.

5. When should I arrive for the Try Coding?

Please arrive by 9:45am each day to check in and get settled.

6. Are kids welcome?

Individuals aged 17+ or older can generally keep up with the class and are very much invited. Unfortunately the venue does not have enough space for child care, so younger ones will need to spend their weekend somewhere else.

7. What should I bring to the workshop?

Your computer, computer charger, notepad/pen and a water bottle/something to drink. Coffee and lunch are included with your ticket purchase.

*Cancellation of events are dependent on a variety of factors including registrations, inclement weather and pressing needs that come up. If we do cancel your Try Coding workshop, you will be notified more than 24 hours in advance, credited back your registration payment and sent the schedule of other events.
