Technology Requirements for this course

To benefit from this course, you will need access to high-speed internet, and a video-equipped computer, and a mobile device for filming yourself. We will use Zoom software for our live meetings and FlipGrid as our video platform (where you will upload technique demonstration videos, comment on others' demonstration videos, and receive feedback from your instructor). Each participant will need a Google account to access the course syllabus, to submit assignments, and to sign in to FlipGrid.

Level 1 Certificate Practicum

This course includes weekly video tasks that satisfy the practicum component of the Level 1 certificate. The tasks are completed independently and outside the classroom context, focusing on your mastery of key techniques and demonstration of language awareness. Your Practicum Coach reviews each video and leaves helpful feedback to ensure that you reach sufficient proficiency with each task so that you are eligible for the Level 1 Certificate by the end of the course. We strongly encourate participants to stay on track with each week's practicum tasks. In the event that you are unable to complete a task on time, you may submit it late, but all practicum tasks must be completed within 2 weeks of the final course meeting.

I'm not currently teaching or tutoring. Can I still apply for Level 1 Certification?

Yes. Level 1 Certification requirements involve demonstrating the techniques taught in the Level 1 workshop and do not require a current classroom setting. This course is appropriate for practicing instructors as well as those who are not currently teaching or who are preparing to teach.
