Description

What reactions do various colors evoke? How can hues impact visual communication or change the tone of a design? Learn the biases that affect color perception and how a designer's palette is a tool for subliminal messaging.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Keisha founded Brass Tacks Collective in December of 2015. After 5 years in interactive advertising as a Senior Designer with imc2, she joined the team at LDWW, a mid-sized PR startup in Dallas. Still, she felt compelled to address two major issues she saw in the industry at large: 1) that we require 1-2 years of job experience for entry-level candidates, but make it extremely difficult to get that experience; 2) that we set rates that shut the door to high needs/low budget clients like nonprofits, startups, and small businesses. During her tenure at imc2, she worked on such brands as Eli Lily, Burt’s Bees, GlaxoSmithKline, and Novartis Oncology. Her experience shifted away from health, wellness, and beauty when she joined LDWW, working primarily on the Big 12 Conference and Texas State of Mind for the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute. After leaving LDWW and starting Brass Tacks, Keisha has grown her client reach to over 50 nonprofits, startups, and small businesses as well as forming partnerships with agencies in Dallas to work alongside them for clients like Jamba Juice and Old Navy. Since 2016, she has been an active Board Member for Union Coffee and has worked as a volunteer and designer for Café Momentum since 2013. Keisha’s personal expertise lies in brand development, interactive design, strategy, and event planning/production. Her passions lie in social justice and equity for all humans (and dogs).

TRANSPORTATION: Driving yourself is one option, but if you're looking for public transportation, there is a DART rail stop less than one block from Thanksgiving Tower. You will exit the train at Akard Station and walk approximately 500 feet down Pacific Ave toward Thanksgiving Square. You may enter Thanksgiving Tower on the Pacific side.

PARKING: You have a few parking options: (1) There is a public parking garage nextdoor to Thanksgiving Tower, just past the light at Stone Place crosswalk, for $5/day on weekends. This is our recommendation. (2) There is metered parking on Elm Street and on every adjacent street downtown. (3) There is also a parking garage directly underneath Thanksgiving Tower for $8/hr or a max of $20/day. (4) There are a variety of other public parking lots throughout downtown Dallas at a variety of rates generally ranging $5-$15.
