Colonel Douglas MacGregor (ret.)
7:00 PM Tuesday, April 21, 2020 200 South Elliott Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27517 The opportunity to hear directly from Col. MacGregor on matters of foreign policy should truely be a remarkable event. Col. MacGregor has a long histroy of challenging conventional military and political thinking both in the military and retirement. His has a reputation for carefully considered challenges to conventional thinking that cut across political institutions, military command structures and bureacracy, and both Democratic and Republican administrations. It shoud be noted that Col. MacGregor speaks with authority on such matters. While he is an often quoted and controversial author his command battlefield experiences are extensive and speak for themselves. Case in point -Col. Macgregor was the "squadron operations officer who essentially directed the Battle of 73 Easting" during the first Gulf War. Facing an Iraqi Republican Guard opponent, U.S. troops with 10 tanks and 13 Bradley fighting vehicles destroyed almost 70 Iraqi armored vehicles with no U.S. casualties in a 23-minute span of the battle."[US New & World Report(7/28/97)]. Col. MacGregor has authored several book that have changed much of the way we think about modern warfare, including: Breaking the Phalanx: a New Design for Landpower in the 21st Century, Transformation Under Fire: Revolutionizing How America Fights, Warrior's Rage: The Great Tank Battle of 73 Easting, and Margin of Victory: Five Battles that Changed the Face of Modern War.
