Data for Evaluating Educational Performance

Speaker: Rajius Idzalika

Inclusive and quality education not only contributes to a country’s sustainable development; it unlocks lifelong opportunities that can improve the well-being of citizens. Education is also a key component of the Human Development Index, a respected measure used to assess countries’ levels of development. But when it comes to evaluating and improving educational performance, where do we actually start? Is it with academic records from traditional institutions? But then, what about outside-the-classroom trends like e-learning? From discussions on data collection efforts to lessons learned from rigorous evaluation studies around the world, this session aims to ignite a discussion on how new digital sources can lend a hand in refining education evaluation approaches.

Speaker Bio

Rajius Idzalika is a data scientist at Pulse Lab Jakarta, working on big data analytics for development and humanitarian action. Prior to her tenure at the Lab, she worked at the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture and the World Bank in the education sector, with particular emphasis on teachers incentives and pay for performance. Rajius holds a PhD in economic sciences from the University of Goettingen, Germany, where she conducted research on unequal education opportunities and did an impact evaluation study for scholarship recipients. She is a strong proponent for the use of different types of data and methodologies for evidence-based policy evaluation research.
