Event Details

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. With the assistance of partners, WCTC and The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Marquette University’s Center for Cyber Security Awareness and Cyber Defense is hosting a colloquium to share ideas on increasing cyber security awareness.

We have two major themes.

First, the workforce pipeline starts in K-12 education. You will learn about and share activities in the K-12 environment to increase awareness, advocate for career opportunities, and prepare students for further study.

Second, defense begins with effective employee awareness. We will examine and discuss aspects of employee training for cyber security awareness and its effectiveness and explore what companies can do to be more aware of risks.

Keynote Speakers:

Davina Pruitt-Mentle, PhD, will speak on:

National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education and the State of K-12 Cybersecurity Education

Dr. Davina Pruitt-Mentle serves as Lead for Academic Engagement of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Prior to joining NICE, she was a senior researcher and policy analyst for Educational Technology Policy, Research and Outreach and served as the Co-PI for the National Science Foundation supported National Cyberwatch Center. She has spent the past 20 years conducting research on student and educator cyberawareness, and developing programs to help increase the cybersecurity workforce pipeline.

Mark Chapman, CEO and Founder PhishLine, will speak on:

Social Engineering Defense

Since 1996, Mark T. Chapman, has grown and led a talented team that continues to develop best-in-class, enterprise level security solutions. Mark and his team have continued to leverage proven risk-based principles to provide a powerful combination of metrics and reporting that lead to decisive action, not just awareness. PhishLine, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was launched in 2011 to help Information Security Professionals meet and overcome the increasing challenges associated with social engineering and phishing.
