Event description

Description

Text- and Evidence-Based Writing: TDA, DBQ, and SAT (grades 4-12)

Presented by Dr. John Collins

Cost: $125 per participant (includes all materials) - districts will be invoiced after the workshop

This one day session provides well described, sequenced strategies that show teachers how to help
students write effective responses to TDA and other evidence-based prompts. These strategies also
work for DBQs (document based questions) and the SAT essay, thereby attracting a wider range of
participants and providing a unified approach for school districts.

Participants will learn how to . . .

  • Use Type One and Type Two writing for quick practice and formative assessment

  • Use a three-part strategy for integrating and explaining textual evidence

  • Select and sequence critical skills throughout the year

  • Embed general academic and domain specific vocabulary in responses

  • Empower students to revise and edit their own work
