Hosted by the Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter (ASAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Thunderin' Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance, this FREE community event is designed to provide a one-stop shop for students and parents/guardians. Registration will begin promptly at 8:00 AM and the program begins at 9:00 AM. Free parking onsite at the school. The location is also accessible via MARTA (http://www.itsmarta.com/planatrip.aspx).

Workshop Descriptions
Empty Nesters (Parents/Guardians Only Session)
Sometimes it’s NOT easy to let go when your high-school student moves on to college. But there are real, practical things you can do to ease the many issues and situations that arise in that process. Empty Nesters helps you wrestle with those issues and, hopefully, find tangible ways to make progress as the “kid” becomes a college student, and then blossoms into an adult. This session addresses college costs, attitude adjustments, shaping the next four (or more) years so that you maintain your sanity and your young adult’s path is made a bit easier.
Financial Preparedness for Your Future
This session will share financial nuggets, discuss the importance of money management and plant seeds to prepare parents and students for financial success as they prepare for college.
Gap Year: A Year of Exploration & Planning
Do you feel like there’s something you want/need to do before you go to college? What about earning extra income for the expense of college, studying abroad or taking a year to focus on something meaningful? This session shows a wide variety of options available to let you explore life outside the usual classroom setting before formalizing your studies at a college.
Georgia vs Everybody!
Don’t know whether to stay or go? Find out the benefits of staying in Georgia for college. Quality of education, scholarship opportunities, dual-enrollment programs are just a few of the topics you’ll explore!
Getting In vs Going
You’ve got to “make the grade,” then you’ve got to “make the decision.” Getting into college is one thing, deciding where to go is another. Getting In vs. Going gives you the tools and tips to do both and empowers you to make informed decisions to select the "best fit" college for YOU. You will learn to make strategic choices, identify deal-breakers in the college selection process, look beyond rankings and much more.
Hands-On Workshop: Filling Out FAFSA
Need help figuring out the financial aid maze? Looking for some tips to help with navigating the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? This hands-on workshop will assist parents and students with filling out the FAFSA.
Hands-On Workshop: Writing Essays for Success (Students Only Session)
Need some guidance for writing your college and scholarship application essays? Or just want to hone in on your writing mechanics and skills? This hands-on workshop will assist students with popular writing prompts from The Common Application, The Common Black College Application, Coalition for College Access, Collegeboard and Scholarship Academy.
Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry, exploiting men, women, and children against their will. Given that the average age of a human trafficking victim is 13, it is important to learn about what human trafficking is and its manifestation in our city and schools, and as we prepare to leave for college. This eye-opening presentation covers victims, traffickers, tips on how to avoid victimization, and red flags. Parents and students won’t want to miss this presentation.
Majors & Careers: A New Millennium
Don’t be scared by the enormous question “What am I going to do with my life?” Jump in and explore the exciting possibilities through new millennium majors and careers. You’ll be offered new ideas, new ways to think about what a major is, and how it helps you move into a career. This track actually helps focus you by opening up your own individual interests and potential.

NCAA: Do you know what it takes to be a college athlete?
NCAA schools require college-bound student-athletes to build a foundation of high school courses to prepare them for college coursework. Students who plan to compete in NCAA sports at Division I or II schools must pass a certain number of NCAA core courses. This session will provide valuable information for the student athlete and parents.
Real Talk: Young Women & College (Females Only) & Young Men & College (Males Only)
Sorry parents, this session is FOR STUDENTS ONLY! What’s really on your mind about college life and becoming a college student? Bring your tough questions before you make the leap to college. We’ll give you some great info about college life, but this track is about getting real about your questions.

Come learn about real ways to help realize your career choice, no matter how unusual or fantastic it may be. The professionals leading this session will help guide you to the resources you need to make your dream career a reality.
To HBCU or Not To HBCU
Want to know more about the power and relevance of an education at an HBCU? This session offers you a little history and a lot of insight about deciding on whether to attend an HBCU or not. This track includes a panel discussion led by the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance so you know you’ll be getting the real deal!
