About this event
The role of cities is changing. And while the city center enjoys a rebirth of purpose and potential, we have a unique opportunity to shape our realities, but must we act now. In an increasingly urbanized world, the beating heart of the metropolis is a not only a place of economic growth, innovation, culture, and creativity, but one of crime and vulnerability as well. Yet, if our city centers are reimagined and reinvigorated, they can be part of a better and more inclusive society, a place where work and community life unite harmoniously. What is this new “life in common” we need? And what aspects of our cities can bring that vision to life?
How do we rethink the planning, development, and management of cities? And, do data-driven technologies play a role in the way we understand, design, and ultimately inhabit cities and city centers of the future? How can we create the economic and social policy groundwork to build upon? How do we use our creativity to ensure that the city and the human soul unite and enrich each other? How do we use creativity to spur activism and engagement? What does the new city center look like?
In this episode of the Collective(s) Summer Series, we gather an exciting group of urban dreamers. They include Charles Landry, the author of The Creative City: A Toolkit for Urban Innovators, and urban planner Ariadne dos Santos Daher, who has worked extensively on city projects in South and Central America, and Sara Fenske Bahat, the current interim CEO of San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, previously having worked in NYC under then mayor Michael Bloomberg.
