Event description

Description

Collaborative Problem Solving develped by Think:Kids and Massachusetts General Hospital is a groundbreaking framework for helping with kids with challenging behavior and for supporting the adult caregivers to understand and respond with greater efficacy. This training is for mental health and education professionals wanting to take a deeper dive into CPS who have already had some exposure to the model.

Join your mental health & education peers at the beautiful McMenamins Edgefield for this fun and engaging 2 and-a-half day intensive training following the up to date Think:Kids CPS Tier 1 curriculum instructed by Ted Layman, LCSW, Think:Kids certified trainer/consultant and OP family therapist.

This special Tier 1 will build on people's previous exposure to the CPS approach. There will be both focus on review of the approach and a deeper dive into Plan B and troubleshooting plan B. It is a prerequisite for participants to have some prior exposure to the model which could include:

  • Having attended an CPS introductory training
  • Received coaching from a certified CPS trainer
  • Been involved in a CPS parent group / Unity's CPS Parent Drop-in Group
  • Read Treating Explosive Children (Greene/Ablon)
  • Having attended a previous Tier 1 training.

If you have not had any exposure to CPS you are welcome to still register. We encourage you to prepare for the training by reading CPS literature and/or attending Ted's Introduction to CPS, 3 hour training on June 1st from 9-12 and Sept. 7th from 9-12 at Restore Therapy. Additionally, you could check out this link for other offerings of introductory trainings happening in the area, including the CPS Parent Drop In Group at Unity.

For the past 4 years Ted has been refining how to make the CPS approach work effectively and to fidelity in an outpatient setting with parents and youth from 5 -19 years old. This will be an extraordinary experience to take lessons learned in the field from Ted and from your colleagues and bring them back to your practice with increased confidence.
