In this class, participants don't need to have any idea of what they want to paint, and the process will make sure of it! Each week, participants will start with a new canvas and be given a prompt such as "draw geometric shapes with an oil pastel." Then the collaboration begins and the canvases will be sent on a journey, stopping with each participant. At each stop around the studio, participants will be given new prompts such as "choose a dark color and paint circles" until the canvas gets back to the original owner.
Once the painting lands back with its owner, with its new layers of inspiration from the community, participants will have the remainder of the class to work on their own piece. There's no expectation to "finish" a piece each week. It's all about letting go and playing with the process.
About the Teaching Artist:
Lara Cornell is a Minneapolis-based artist. Her style is Soulful Expressionism; painting bright colors, mixing medias, using original photography, lettering words of love and encouragement, and often focused on her love of nature. Lara has been a volunteer with courageous heARTS since our very first event in June of 2013.
Fees support local artists and courageous heARTS' mission to co-create experiences with young people by offering them a safe space, built with the intention to heal and empower through expressive arts, community building, and leadership development.
