The primary goals of the 1st Annual Collaborative Chemistry Meetings are to promote collaboration, build connections and provide professional development opportunities between chemistry educators in the following counties: Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara with the aim of enhancing student learning.
We are very excited to organize this 1st annual conference to allow chemistry educators in our region the opportunity to meet and collaborate! The idea for this meeting and much of the funding came out of the Project ALAS grant between CSU Channel Islands, Ventura Community College District, and Santa Barbara City College. The grant was designed to promote transfer success from the community colleges to the four-year university. Since we share many of our students across our campuses, as well as many part-time faculty, we feel the best way to increase transfer success is to get to know each other. We hope these faculty connections will allow us to share ideas and best practices, as well as streamline our course content, for the benefit of our students.
We have additional goals for this meeting including learning about some of the high-impact practices in use on our campuses, evaluating the current American Chemical Society recommendations for 2 and 4-year schools, and giving faculty and students from our region the opportunity to present their work at a professional conference.
Please plan to join us for this exciting opportunity for faculty collaboration and professional development. Part-time faculty are especially encouraged to participate!
