Notable Executive Chef and Owner Matt Gordon is one of Southern California’s most acclaimed and respected chefs. A 25-year veteran of the restaurant industry, Matt has headed numerous kitchens including the highly acclaimed Willi's Seafood and Raw Bar in Healdsburg, Calif.; Hospitality Inc. (Festivities Catering, Picnic People), Scott's Seafood, in the heart of Silicon Valley; and Gordon Biersch Brewing Company at their flagship location in San Francisco. His two highly successful restaurants in San Diego, Urban Solace and Solace and the Moonlight Lounge, garner rave reviews and fans from locals and visitors looking for updated classics to his American comfort food cuisine.
A vocal spokesman for sustainability and the community, Matt and his wife are committed to raising their children on a diet free of artificial ingredients, which is also part of their restaurants’ ethos. At both of his busy San Diego eateries, items from ketchup and Worcestershire sauce to sodas and maraschino cherries are free of preservatives or additives and often made in-house. Matt feeds his family and his restaurant guests with this in mind, offering predominantly organic and sustainable ingredients, completely free of artificial additives, and completely delicious.
As the President of the North Park Main St. Association he was the spark that transformed that neighborhood with the opening of Urban Solace. He is also a member of Chef Celebration, a non-profit that awards scholarships to promising young chefs. Matt is a huge part of the San Diego culinary community, present at events, and always a champion for the San Diego dining scene. Gordon’s personal accolades include, San Diego City Beat Reader’s Poll Best Chef in 2014, “50 People to Watch” by San Diego Magazine in 2011, “40 Under 40” by San Diego Metropolitan Magazine and “Best Chef” by San Diego Downtown News in 2008.

About Just Call Us Volunteers
JUST CALL US VOLUNTEERS (JCUV) collaborates with other non-profits to positively impact the lives of San Diego’s low-income and homeless adults and children by serving free healthy meals and teaching hands-on cooking classes using fresh, often organic, and nutritious ingredients.
We’re a diverse group of San Diego residents who all have something powerful in common: a love of food and healthy eating, and a desire to give back to our community by helping the less fortunate. We are chefs and food writers, nutritionists, farmers market vendors, restaurant owners, parents, teachers, computer engineers, bankers and just people who simply love our community and want all of its members to thrive.
Just Call Us Volunteers began in 2005, when we started preparing and serving healthy holiday meals to San Diego County winter shelter residents. In the past seven years, Just Call Us Volunteers has served 26,000 meals. We now offer this service year round through our partnership with the Alpha Project.
In February 2010, Just Call Us Volunteers launched what has become a successful volunteer program at Olivewood Gardens in National City. We brought guest chefs and others in the food community to this magical property to teach hands-on cooking classes to low-income children in grades 4 to 6 from the National City School District. Just Call Us Volunteers brought over 80 chef volunteers, along with sous chefs and kitchen helpers, to Olivewood Gardens.
