Event Details

The Center for Deployment Psychology will be presenting a two-day evidence-based workshop on the fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) on 12-13 October 2017, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern. Depression in the military will be discussed, as will the theory underlying cognitive behavioral therapy. Participants will learn how to conceptualize depressed patients, plan treatment, and utilize both cognitive and behavioral strategies. Participants will also be trained to use the Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale (CTRS) to assess therapist competency. Participants will have the opportunity to both watch role-play videos and practice intervention strategies through their own role-plays. For an outline of course content, please click here

Registration for the course is $45 and comes with 13.5 CEUs. (Please note the refund policy at the bottom of the page.) This course will be held online through Second Life. Participants will need to have an account in Second Life and install the Second Life viewer on their computer in order to take part. Those who don't have a Second Life account can create one and download the Second Life viewer here: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/.

Once at http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/, click the gold "Join Now" at the top of the page to create an account and click the "Download the SL Viewer" button to get the Second Life viewer.
Also, a functioning microphone is 
MANDATORY to attend, in order to be able to participate in the role-play sessions. Additionally, headphones are HIGHLY recommended to reduce feedback and echoing effects.

Attendance Requirements:
Participants will be required to have a Second Life account and install the Second Life viewer on their computer. Those who do not have a Second Life account can sign up and download the viewer here: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/Click the gold "Join Now" at the top of the page to create an account and click the "Download the SL Viewer" button to get the Second Life viewer.

If you are unfamiliar with Second Life, we HIGHLY recommend watching these brief orientation videos we have created to introduce Second Life to new participants.

Participants are also required to attend one of the pre-event "open houses" held online in Second Life. This is to ensure that participants can successfully log into Second Life, enter the training space, hear the presenter and speak with them via their computer's microphone. Participants will not need to attend for the entire "open house," just a portion of the two-hour window.

The scheduled times for the open-houses are as follows:

  • 27 Sept. 2-4 p.m. Eastern
  • 2 Oct. 7-9 p.m. Eastern
  • 3 Oct. 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Eastern
  • 4 Oct. 1-3 p.m. Eastern
  • 10 Oct. 7-9 p.m. Eastern

CEU Details:
Mental healthcare providers are eligible to receive CEUs upon completion of this training and successful completion of a post-training survey/knowledge evaluation. CEUs for partial participation will not be awarded. CMEs for medical providers or psychiatrists are not available.
