Community Guidelines / Inclusivity Statement

Coffee + Creatives is a large group, driven by the needs of our members.

With approx. 500 unique visitors attending the in-person meetup each year and 3,000+ active on a monthly basis via the online Facebook group, Twitter, Instagram, and email newsletter, there are people from a wide spectrum of ethnicity, age, ability, religious and spiritual beliefs, gender, and gender identity/expressions.

Both online and offline, we ask that our members be respectful, focus on sharing work and ideas, and avoid name calling (e.g. “you’re an idiot” “why are you so stupid”). We do not and will not tolerate racist / sexist / abusive language, and encourage you to make every possible effort to be honest about your bias or conflicts of interest.

Any large and healthy community will have differences of opinion at times, but we can still all be constructive. If you engage in abusive behavior and/or hate speech in any Coffee + Creatives hosted forum (online or offline) we reserve the right to ask you to leave the community immediately and permanently.

Licensing Music for Film/Video

Location: The Watson Building, 1600 Lomas Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM, 87104

Time: 11a - 1p

Anyone who has ever made a video or film knows that music can have a huge impact on the final product. It follows that as a video/filmmaker, or as a musician, it’s important to understand how to obtain or give the necessary rights to a piece of music so that everyone is on the same page about how the music will be used, what fees will be paid (if any), and other important terms. Understanding these types of agreements is essential to avoid conflicts—or even worse, allegations of infringement or other legal troubles—which are especially painful to deal with after a film is made.

This workshop walks you through the basics of music licensing agreements for film/video and includes an editable copy of an agreement template that musicians and/or filmmakers can use.
