Coffee Brewing Fundamentals - December 15, 2016
This two-hour brewing intensive is designed to lay the foundation for achieving optimum flavor balance in coffee brewing. Irving Farm’s instructors will provide students with hands-on experience using batch brewing equipment, preparing coffee with the Kalita wave, and evaluating brewed coffee’s flavor.

Identify the four primary sensory aspects of brewed coffee.
List and explain the six essential elements of brewing.
Distinguish by taste the impact of acceptable versus improper brewing.
Discuss variables in batch brewing devices and the Kalita wave.
- Perform the steps of brewing a Kalita wave.
There are no pre-requisties for this course. Students should come prepared to taste coffee beverages. Class begins promptly at the top of the hour! Our lab opens 15 minutes before class starts so that you can check-in prior to the start of class.
