Coffee and Conversation, a Playwriting Workshop with Cara Beth Heath, MFA

Playwrights Experienced, Amateur and Aspiring will all find gold in our playwriting workshop with "Good Enough" author Cara Beth Heath, MFA.
About Cara Beth Heath:
Cara Beth Heath has an MFA in Playwriting from Western Michigan University and a
BA in Creative Writing from the College of Charleston. While in Kalamazoo for her MFA, she
became a founding member of the Metallic Mannequin Company, an independent theatre
group dedicated to producing locally developed art. She’s twice visited the Kennedy Center
to study dramaturgy and once more for directing, and participated in Kalamazoo festivals
for Theatre Kalamazoo and Activate Midwest. Her full-length plays CAGED SISTER, THE
BREAKING, and GOOD ENOUGH have received productions and staged readings throughout
Michigan. She now lives in Chicago, IL and works with various theatre companies as in
development, season selection, and dramaturgy.
About the Workshop:
This 1-3 pm workshop will begin with complimentary coffee and conversation with Cara Beth Heath, MFA. Come ready to ask any questions you have and enjoy time with this established playwright.
At 1:30 Cara Beth will lead craft exercises and discussions on how to get started on a new play, how to move forward if you're stuck, and what to do when you're "done."
You'll also be getting up and moving around - so come ready to move! (This will not be strenuous movement but rather an exercise in script engagement off the page.
What if I'm experienced? Will I end up with a bunch of newbies? What if I'm new and end up with a bunch of established folks?! Come one come all! This workshop is accessible for ALL ages and ALL levels of experience.
After discussing during coffee your wants, needs, and desires in terms of playwright development, Cara Beth will pull exact exercises and details tailored to the attendees!

Good Enough will be staged as a full production this April 2017 by Bare Backstage Productions and Metallic Mannequin Company.

Unlike other KCACTF regions, Region III chooses a winner in order to honor the full-length play submissions received every year. In addition to regional recognition, the winner receives a concert reading at the regional festival and becomes a Finalist for the KCACTF NAPAT.
