CoderDojo Miami - Coding Club for Young People
Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (EST)
- CoderDojo members will be demonstrating their orignal Arduino controlled creatures at the Miami Maker Faire on Nov. 16th and would love to show you how they work! Come join us for this celebration of creativity, learn more about our program and hear how our program has touched the lives of dozens of families.
- The Club is learning Scratch a terrific graphical programming language from MIT. Build games, stories, and greeting cards in minites not hours. If you want to solve our Challenge with a differnent language? Go for it! We can't wait to see what you and your team will build.
- Are you coming from North Miami Dade and Broward, you might want to attend CoderDojo Pembroke Pines.
About our Club:
CoderDojo is a free, international, coding club for young people. If you are between the ages of 8 - 17, interested to learn computer programming, play with electronics and 3D printing (or are already a Tech Guru) and you are willing to share what you learn with others you can become a club member. No prior programming experience is necessary. There is no cost, just bring a laptop and a parent. We'll be meeting twice a month, the first and third Sunday, to build cool apps, devices and programming skills with creative young people who love playing with computers and sharing what they know with others.
Our format is exploratory and not lecture, although we will have "show and tells" from time to time. Teams will be formed to solve challenges and each team presents what they have built and share how they did it with others. Here is a short video which walks you through our format we are using at our Pembroke Pines location: http://youtu.be/oiYgexwsPJE . If you like the idea of creating computer programs to tell a story... perhaps by building a game, or using arduinos/3D printable objects to show how to realize your ideas, then you have found a home. If you know how to program, work with electronics, or know how to make things and want to share what you know with other kids then become a Dojo Mentor. There is a lot of great info at http://coderdojo.com for beginners and mentors alike.
Pictures Above are from our Pembroke Pines club.
To get started, grab a free Eventbrite ticket. If this is your first time at the Miami location you will receive an email a few days prior to the event with an additional form for a parent to complete that will allow you access the Teen Tech Center. Finally, please have your parent complete this short survey: http://goo.gl/5Uimd Oh, one more thing. There is only one rule when at CoderDojo: Be cool!
