Description
Code for America is a non-profit that strives to help governments use technology better, to improve services for citizens. Using different programs, including fellowships for developers in local governments, civic hack-a-thons, and a peer network to share data the organization aims to create more user friendly and efficient government services. Specifically they will speak to ELGL about two initiatives Open Data and Digital Front Door.
The Digital Front Door initiative is an effort to streamline the procurement process and allow for local businesses to compete for technology and creative services contracts. This is a new effort that’s being piloted in Oakland, CA and Code for America will share how it’s going. The Open Data initiative is a movement to make government data free and easily available to the public. This data can then potentially be used to create new software, solve problems and more.
