Are you curious how all those fancy web apps you use are put together? Would you like to make your own in a friendly encouraging environment surrounded by other excited learners and some helpful geeks?
Then, this event is for you!!
Code Chocolate is an exciting event that will introduce programing and coding to members of our community. The event will feature a dynamic keynote speaker and an introductory programming session. This session will offer attendees an introduction to Ruby on Rails. Not only will attendees walk away from this highly interactive event confident and empowered, they would have completed an actual project!
So, if you’re…
- Interested in learning how to program …
- Want to build your own web application …
- Never written a line of code before …
4TechMoms, partnered with RailsBridge, is a friendly place to get together and learn how to write some code.
We'll start with the InstallFest on Friday night (Dec 9, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm - same location) and make sure you have everything you need on your computer. If you can make it through the InstallFest process on your own, you don't need to come Friday night.
Saturday, we'll start with an introduction to programming so you can get the basic concepts, and then we'll dive into building a web application!
And if you sign up but don't get the confirmation email, check your spam folder!
Things to Consider
We work really hard to put these events on and we'd love it if the people who sign up show up, or at least cancel with enough notice so that folks on the waitlist have enough notice to make it.
You'll need the following things to be able to successfully participate in the 4TechMoms/RailsBridge workshop:
- A reasonably up to date laptop running Windows, OS X or Linux
- The power cord for that laptop
- A little patience
- A little curiosity
- A way to get to Big Nerd Ranch!
Food and Drinks
We'll provide breakfast foods (and coffee) and lunch on Saturday!
6:00 - 8:00 pm Installfest
9:00 - 9:30 am Breakfast and Intro
9:30 - 12:30 pm Morning session (with periodic breaks)
12:30 - 1:30 pm Lunch, and a word from our sponsor
1:30 - 3:30 pm Afternoon session (with more breaks)
3:30 - 4:00 pm Student and Volunteer Retrospectives (so we can get feedback on how it went)
This is a Ruby on Rails sponsored event. The focus will be on developing functional web apps and programming in Ruby. You can find all the curriculum materials at docs.railsbridge.org.
