Cocoa Runners Chocolate Tasting Evening: France vs USA
Tue, July 11, 2017, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM BST
Join us for this Cocoa Runners Tasting Evening at Prufrock Coffee in Farringdon.
Europe has a rich heritage of chocolate making. A certain prestige is attached to European cocoa, with our chocolate having the reputation for being luscious, smooth, and creamy. The same cannot be said for bars made by our neighbours from across the pond.
It's fair to say that American chocolate has a far from stellar reputation - mainstream chocolate from the USA is often thought of as nothing more than sugar filled candy. But to dismiss the latest wave of North American makers would be to miss out on some of the finest bars being made in the world today...
In fact, today, North America is leading the craft chocolate revolution. There are over 400 craft chocolate makers in north America, crafting bars from beans from all around the world. What's more, through projects such as Uncommon Cacao pioneering chocolate makers such as Alex Whitmore, founder of Taza, are going one step further, and helping to share some of the world's rarest beans with up and coming makers around the world.
While we love to take you on a round the world tour of craft chocolate, tonight we'll be taking a moment to compare and contrast bars made in Europe with those crafted in North America.
The tasting will start promptly at 7pm.
