The holidays are around the corner! Girls Health Ed invites you to attend a cocktail hour coming up December 7th, 2016 at The Prospect, a new U Street venue in Washington, DC. Girls Health Ed is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which educates disadvantaged girls in DC, NYC, LA Kenya between the ages of 8 and 17 about their overall health. The organization empower girls and young women to make healthy, informed choices throughout their lives by training volunteer ‘teaching fellows’ to teach health education workshops in schools and community centers.
Our one-of-a-kind program aims to impact girls’ and women’s health by placing equal emphasis on many aspects of an empowered life. Curriculum modules include nutrition and body image, physical fitness, personal care and hygiene, and reproductive health. Girls Health Ed focuses on girls and young women who are less likely to obtain accurate health information about their changing bodies from their school or home environments.
With more than 62 million girls around the world not in school—half of whom are adolescents, there is a need for programming which focuses on keeping girls in school throughout adolescence, especially during puberty, when many girls drop out. To date, Girls Health Ed has served over 1,500 girls with health education, and in many cases, access to hygiene products free of charge.
To continue our work, we need your help. We are pleased to invite you to attend our upcoming fundraising event, #CocktailsandConfidence, and hope you will be able to attend and join our mission.
