Event description

Take part in the world's BIGGEST volunteer day to protect the ocean!

Join Heal the Bay for Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, Sept. 21.

It's Heal the Bay's 30th Anniversary of coordinating this wonderful event in Los Angeles County. This year, there are more than 70 cleanup sites to choose from throughout L.A. County. Whether you want to tidy up the beach or spruce up a neighborhood park, go underwater or skim the top, we've got you covered!

  1. Find a cleanup site: Check out our cleanup location site map to pick a location that suits you. Come back soon because we'll continue to add more sites.
  2. Safety Waivers: Download our waiver. We have both English and Spanish available.
  3. Talk trash: Share on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to get your friends excited about the trashiest day of the year. Use the hashtags #coastalcleanupday and #healthebay to stay connected with the international volunteer day movement!
  4. Keep it clean: Supplies will be available at every site, but bring your own bucket, gloves, and a refillable water bottle to help reduce waste.

Ready to register? Select REGISTER. Scroll to see site locations, choose 1 and click CHECKOUT. The final page will ask for your contact info, number of volunteers signing up, and group/organization name. That's it!

You will receive a confirmation email with all your registration details.

We highly encourage carpooling, ridesharing, biking, or taking mass transit as daily beach parking permits can vary in price depending on the season and crowds at the beach. Metro offers a quick and easy tool to plan your trip.

Free volunteer parking at beach and marina parking lots operated only by L.A. County Beaches and Harbors will be available. See a map of lots here and parking passes can be downloaded here.

Limited parking passes will be available at Santa Monica beach lots 1N, 4S, and 5S. These passes will be distributed by CCD volunteers at entrance kiosks. They are first come, first served.

I'm bringing a big group. What should I do?
Only the group leader needs to register online. Make sure to indicate how many people will be in your group.

Is there an age limit to participate?
All ages are welcome, but volunteers 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under 18 must have their waiver signed by parent or guardian.

I heard you can do a scuba or kayak cleanup. How?
Email the CCD Coordinator for more information. You must be dive certified to participate in the dive sites.

Are there any cleanup sites in Long Beach?
Yes! Please email Brooke Davis with any questions about Long Beach cleanup sites.

Are there other locations in California?
Yes! Check out for locations all over California.

What if I don't see a cleanup site near me in L.A.?

Keep checking back as we'll be adding more sites in L.A. County soon.

Are there any buses available for school groups?
Depending on availability, there may be some bus vouchers for teachers. Email Emely Garcia for more information.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Please don't print out your ticket! You only need to bring your completed safety waiver to the cleanup.

Can I update my registration information?
Are your group numbers changing, please feel free to register any additional guests in a new Eventbrite ticket. Did you decide on a different cleanup site? Cool, just create a new ticket with your information.

About Coastal Cleanup Day:

Coastal Cleanup Day is an international day of action to protect our oceans, watersheds, and wildlife from trash and debris. This massive volunteering effort has an astounding impact on many of our local natural habitats and communities. For 2018, the Ocean Conservancy reports that nearly 800,000 volunteers collectively removed more than 20 million pieces of trash from beaches and waterways around the world. That’s 20 million fewer potential impacts on whales, turtles and other beloved ocean wildlife. Once again Heal the Bay will proudly coordinate cleanup locations in Los Angeles County in association with Ocean Conservancy and California Coastal Commission. See the worldwide reach of International Coastal Cleanup 2019 and register for a cleanup site near you.
