Coalitions Rising

Prevention continues to evolve as new models, programs, research, and evidence comes to light. Coalitions have to understand how these changes will change the work we do, how we communicate successes to our community, and so much more.

Join us as we learn strategies, engage in thoughtful discussions, and explore other areas of prevention together at Coalitions Rising. This two-day conference will bring together community coalitions, suicide prevention coalitions, colleges and universities, behavioral health providers, youth prevention providers, and others. Together, we’ll work together to continue to improve outcomes for our youth, young adults, and the entire community.

Topics will include coalition response to medical marijuana becoming legal in Ohio, grocery delivery systems that include alcohol delivery, and more!

Who Should Attend?

This event is appropriate for coalition leaders and all sectors of your coalition. Strategies and ideas will be applicable to urban, suburban and rural coalition communities. This two-day event is open to both Ohio and non-Ohio based coalitions. It will focus primarily on efforts to address substance misuse prevention. Other notable topics include suicide prevention and multi-county collaboration. This event is not recommended for youth leaders to attend.

Participants will be exposed to ideas that specifically address:
  • Creating a call to action after a prevention program
  • Local health and service provider partnerships
  • Changes in the alcohol landscape
  • Updates on coalition work and medical marijuana

Coalitions Rising will be a green conference: slides and other handouts will be accessible via the web during the conference and ahead of time, but no printed materials will be made available at the conference. Please plan accordingly.

Ethics for the Prevention Professional - OPTIONAL Add-On, 3.0 CEUs

This is an optional add-on for attendees of the conference. Max: 25 participants.


As a prevention professional, you regularly face situations that involve ethics. In some of these situations, you may not be aware of your ethical responsibility or know how to respond ethically. This training is designed to help you make ethical choices in your work every day. This training will cover the six principles in the Prevention Code of Ethics, illustrated by realistic examples designed to enhance your understanding of each principle.

This THREE-hour ethics training will cover renewal OCPS and OCPC requirements and will cover the application requirements for OCSPA.

Ethics for the Prevention Professional attendees will meet from 1:30 - 4:30 PM in a closed session. Attendees will begin the session after the conference attendees break for lunch.

Mental Health First Aid for Adults - OPTIONAL Add-On, 8.0 CEUs

Cost: $20.00

Date: Monday, September 17th, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM with working lunch

This is an optional add-on for attendees of the conference. Max: 30 participants.


Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches you how to help someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. All materials needed for this course will be provided.

Mental Health First Aid attendees will meet all day and have a working lunch provided.
