COACh Strategic Performance Workshops

About this event

These innovative workshops are designed to provide an interactive opportunity to increase career success among scientists. We have had great success with these workshops in the past, and are very excited to bring them back!

Separate workshops will be held for graduate students/postdocs and faculty, please register for one session. All sessions will be led by Professor Pushpa Murthy.

Inclusive Leadership and Networking for Science and Engineering

for UCI faculty

Tuesday Jan 11, 1:30-3:30pm, zoom

Women scientists take on leadership roles every day, in the classroom, in their department or institution and in their professional organizations. This workshop module is designed to give participants the basic concepts of leadership, describe recent research on leadership qualities that lead to success and failure, discuss effective leadership styles for women and people in different cultures, provide techniques and strategies for career advancement into leadership roles, assist in developing and maintaining strong leadership networks. The session includes presentations by the facilitator, small group discussions and experiential learning. Mixed gender groups welcome.

Career Launch and Acceleration

for UCI graduate students and postdocs. Please register for one session only, they will be the same.

Session 1: Wed Jan 12 1:30-3:30 pm, zoom

Session 2: Thursday Jan 13, 1:30-3:30 pm, zoom

Seeking and starting that first job as a scientist or engineer is a time of great transition and uncertainly. This workshop provides techniques necessary for an effective career launch into the job that best fits your skills and interests. This workshop module will help position you to be most effective in finding and applying for a variety of job positions, developing a tailored CV for the position and being an effective communicator in the interview whether it is by phone, web-based or in person. Additional topics include effective communication methods for teaching and research presentations, importance of network building and finding a mentor, building a strong CV and developing a professional internet presence. Mixed gender groups welcome.
