Event description

Description

Men and women who have experienced homelessness often have complicated histories and diverse needs that require a multi-faceted approach. Many struggle with substance use disorders as well as significant mental health challenges such as trauma and significant mood disorders. This workshop will explore strategies to help case managers better understand complicated diagnoses, multi-faceted approaches, and tools to prioritize how to best serve each client’s individual needs. Concepts include an overview of symptoms workers may often see in their clients but may struggle to understand, the stages of change—both in relation to substance use and in relation to mental health disorders, and the precursors to look for that help to indicate the client’s interest and motivation to change. Case studies will be presented to assist participants in understanding how to best interact with clients who have co-occurring disorders.

This foundation workshop is geared toward those case managers and program staff who are new to the field, with less than three years experience.

Coffee and light refreshments will be served. CEUs will be offered.
