Catching Up with the Latest in Massage Research
Most of us got a few nuggets of massage research in massage school, and we learned a lot about the effects of massage (e.g. "massage breaks up adhesions'). But based on current research, many things that we were taught are just not true, or the mechanisms are different than we thought. What really happens when we do massage? This 8-hour class provides you with up-to-date findings on massage therapy research and a better way to use those findings to increase your effectiveness and boost your everyday massage practice.
This is an 8-hour NCBTMB approved class and will ONLY be offered on Saturday the 22nd 2017
Michael teaches anatomy, technique, and research literacy in Seattle and around the US, and he maintains a full time bodywork practice focused on orthopedic injury and trauma recovery. He also works extensively with the Massage Therapy Foundation to help with research literacy, education, and community service in the bodywork field. He teaches research workshops for AMTA, ABMP, and MTF. He write occasional articles for academic andtrade journals (JBMT, IJTMB, Massage & Bodywork, Massage Therapy Journal)
Sunday April 23rd 2017
The Pelvis & Core: An Ortho-Muscular Approach
The Pelvic and Core region is a complex area of the body. Knowledge of the postural imbalances, weaknesses and movement restrictions that may occur in this area, is imperative to a bodyworker. These dysfunctions can affect not only the lower back and hip region but travel up the spine or affect the lower extremity, especially in athletes. This seminar, intended for the advanced massage therapist, has been designed to further enhance the knowledge and manual skills to help treat our clients with pelvic and core imbalance, pain, and dysfunction.
Topics to be discussed: Assessment & Treatment of Pelvic Postural Imbalances, SI Joint Dysfunction, Sciatica, Lower Back Sprain, Strain, & Pain Muscle Weaknesses and Self-Care strategies.
This is an 8-hour NCBTMB approved class and will ONLY be offered on Sunday the 23rd 2017
Nate was born and raised in Jamestown, NY. He was an all-state distance runner in high school and continued his running career at the University of Albany. He studied Kinesiology and Athletic Training while competing in cross country and track & field.
