Event description

Description

The Center for Ethics and Leadership invites students, faculty, staff, alumni, guests and friends to a lunchtime discussion of an important international human rights cased argued before the Supreme Court by two St. Edward’s University alumni.

Alumni Bob Hilliard (BA, English Literature) and Steve Shadowen (BA, General Studies) represented the family of a Mexican national killed by U.S. Border Patrol agents along the southern border, obtaining the first ever ruling that Mexican nationals killed by U.S. agents in Mexico can obtain judicial review of those killings in U.S. courts. They took that case all the way to the Supreme Court, which in the summer of 2017 vacated the judgement and remanded the case to a lower court. In this presentation both lawyers will talk about the case, describe their experience arguing at the Supreme Court and the next steps they’ve planned in their pursuit of justice for the Hernandez family.
