The Alliance Linking Leaders in Education and the Services (ALLIES) and the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) are proud to present the 5th Annual Civil-Military Relations Conference, taking place from Saturday, November 10th, to Sunday, November 11th, 2018 [schedule below]. This year’s theme is Security, Society, and the New Climate Regime. The conference will feature two panel discussions on the impacts of climate change on domestic and foreign policy, including a focus on climate negotiations and security. What adaptations have institutions planned and operationalized in order to mitigate the impact of climate change or prevent further contamination of the environment? The panels take place Saturday, the 10th.

Panel 1: Society and Climate Change (10:00–12:30)

Led by Drs. William Moomaw of Fletcher, Rachel Cleetus of the Union of Concerned Scientists, Casey Brown of UMass Amherst, and CDR Aaron Delano-Johnson of the Coast Guard, a discussion on the impact of climate change on economics and technology, as well as our entire biosphere.

Panel 2: Climate Security: Adaptations and Dangers (2:00–4:30)

Led by Drs. Jarrod Hayes of MIT, Auroop Ganguly of Boston University, Lt. Col. Patrick Workman of the U.S. Army, and Gregg Nakano, MALD and PhD. candidate, a discussion the international security implications of shifting climates and policy responses.

Keynote: Mark Patrick Nevitt, LL.M., Sharswood Fellow at UPenn Law. (5:30–6:30)

The event will conclude with an in-depth simulation in which participants will attempt to navigate countries around issues related to climate change and how it can further complicate identity conflicts, industrial development for low-income countries, population movements, and more.
