Event description
CMMA2020/21 Conference theme is “Looking Back, Thinking Ahead” and will focus on the importance of inclusion, diversity, and participation.

About this Event

CONFERENCE POSTPONED Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic.

Dear Partners/Supporters/Participants,

In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are seeing that many events are cancelled, postponed, or moved. It is for this reason that we no longer believe it to be feasible to hold the conference at the end of November 2020. However, cancelling the conference altogether is not an option for us.

After careful deliberation among the entire conference organization, and after consultation with the CMMA2020 Conference organizing Committee, we have therefore decided to POSTPONE THE CONFERENCE to October/November 2021.

The conference organizers’ main concern is to guarantee the health of everyone involved and ensure a high level of attendance from stakeholders around the world.

The conference organizers invite all partners to continue their engagement with this event and will work towards ensuring the same programme with an even greater level of participation in 2021.

Please bear with us as we do this and stay tuned for details on the CMMA2020/21 website.

Our best wishes go out to all of you. We hope you stay safe and healthy and we are looking forward to seeing you next year.

Thank you for your patience.

Larry M. Macaulay - Founder / Convener

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CMMA2020/21 is a two and half day conference which convenes approximately 350 participants from 4 continents, 30 countries and over 100 institutions to engage in discussions with key stakeholders (policymakers, educators, social workers, activists, bloggers, journalist, representatives of communities.

Through numerous workshops and podiums as well as exhibition, music and performance formats. The participants enter a discursive exchange on political moods and opinions in times of "Post Pandemic Era". Methods are exchanged and strategies are developed to find a way to deal with media reporting on issues of migration, xenophobia, fake news, hate-speech and also de-colonizing cultural journalism with positive counter-narratives, social commitment, and exile-born creativity.

This year, CMMA2020 Conference theme is “Looking Back, Thinking Ahead” and will focus on the importance of inclusion, diversity, and participation within the Media and Art sector (community & mainstream).

The CMMA2020 sees media, arts, and culture as important enablers of freedom of expression, producers of counter alternative narratives, and promoters of media pluralism and cultural diversity.

The objective is to outline and:

  • Build capacity and a wider base of civil society organizations to engage in the compacts process on safe, orderly regular migration and lift regional and aligned political advocacy goals.
  • Develop a global campaign on racial discrimination and Xenophobia.
  • Promote exchanges, synergies and the sharing of good practices, especially in the field, for ethical coverage of migration issues.
  • Promote cooperation between different stakeholders including international organizations, civil society, media and arts professionals.
  • Proactively assert key practical recommendations that we can achieve with solid advocacy - for example, climate action, combating Hate speeches in media, de-colonizing cultural journalism and Arts Institutions.
  • Strengthen and building alliances – across our diverse sectors to build another world and bring an end to the current global racial inequality.
