Defining Sustainability Goals at the Port of Seattle
The Port of Seattle brings international trade and transportation to the Puget Sound region, supporting a strong economy, providing a diverse base of well-paying local jobs, and adding to the quality of life. On the threshold of the Port’s 100th anniversary, Wayne Grotheer –who currently directs the capital program at Sea-Tac Airport and previously led finance, environmental, security and planning efforts for the Seaport— will provide an update on where the Port is today and where it is headed on its approach.
Mr. Grotheer will discuss the Port’s policies for sustainable projects and the Port’s new procedures for evaluating sustainability during the early stages of project definition for the Port’s capital projects in the Seaport, Airport and Real Estate Divisions. He will also address how green building standards like LEED are considered in capital project planning and design.
Wayne Grotheer is Director of the Port of Seattle’s Capital Improvement Program at Sea-Tac Airport. Wayne has worked for the Port of Seattle in a succession of positions since 2001. Prior to joining the Port of Seattle, he worked in the technology industry as President of NetCompliance and Chief Operating Officer of AdvanceOnline. Before this, he worked for 20 years in the environmental field at the US EPA and as a Vice President of Environmental Affairs in the chemical industry. He is a registered professional engineer. Wayne holds a bachelor’s of engineering degree from The Cooper Union, New York City, a master’s of engineering degree from the University of Washington, and a master’s of business administration degree also from the University of Washington.
