19:10 - Concept of Machine Learning towards business. Examples using R and Oracle

Machine learning (ML) is gaining an impact in today’s society, and will certainly have a tremendous effect in the near future. Its ability to learn from data and make predictions for new samples has helped and improved different fields like research, medical diagnosis, smart technologies and even business. Although still in the process of awareness in this last context, more and more companies are understanding the contribution of ML into their business.

This talk will be focused on the concept of ML. We will show you what kind of algorithms exist and how they can be used to change the way a company operates in order to run more efficiently. Some examples will be presented using R language performed in simple datasets from Oracle.

As a DBA or Database-person you will be asked to join a DevOps team and use some of the Agile methods.
When this happens, you will have to absorb new knowledge and work-habits.
But you will also have to educate your colleagues on what is possible and impossible at the database level.
We will try to give some guidelines, and point out a few embarrassing mistakes we made in these situations.
