This Fall/Winter workshop series "WHAT'S THE SCENARIO?" will meet twice a month on Saturdays from 10:30am to 11:30am

  • AWIFS will introduce participants to the Forensic Drug Chemistry (Forensic Drug Analysis), Forensic DNA Analysis, Firearms Examination and Crime Scene Investigation career through hands-on activities and discussions with real forensic professionals about education, training and career opportunities in the forensic science field. With a combined experience of over 30 years in forensic science, Club Philly Forensics has succeeded in spreading awareness about the importance of forensic science education to the general public.

  • For ages 12-18

  • Participants will also receive helpful career advice from forensic professionals and resources about forensic/STEM programs

  • Please complete a Permission Slip and bring it to class. Students under 18 will not be allowed to participate without a signed permission slip by a parent/guardian.

All Workshops are Non-Refundable.

September 23rd-Session 1: A MIXTURE OF WHAT?..$20.00

Examine an unknown substance to determine its identity. Participants will learn about the following through a hands-on scenario:

  • Separation techniques such as chromatography for determining the components in their unknown substance.

  • Examination, Observation and Documentation

  • Chain of Custody and Evidence Handling

  • Presentation of their conclusions to their class as a group.

October 7th-Session 2: FIRST IMPRESSION..$20.00

An unknown pill or the packaging of a substance can be inscribed with a logo or an impression. Participants will learn about the following through a hands-on scenario:

  • Liquid Extraction

  • Chain of Custody and Evidence Handling

  • Examination, Observation and Documentation

  • Presentation of their conclusions to their class as a group.

October 21-Session 3: PICTURE THIS..$20.00

There is plenty of note-taking and descriptive writing during the analysis process; documenting the correct results with a supporting conclusion is important. At the conclusion of this workshop series, participants will present their final report explaining the substances they analyzed, the techniques and methods they utilized and their conclusions.

November 4th-WHO DOES WHAT: UNCOVERING THE FORENSICS TEAM..$20.00

What are the duties of the various forensic specialists and how do they help the criminal justice in solving crime? Participants will learn about the common job titles and duties within the forensics field through a hands-on scenario and group discussion.

November 18th-INSIDE YOUR DNA $20.00

Particpants will learn about Forensic DNA Analysis through a crime scene scenario.

December 2nd-SOCIAL MEDIA AND DRUGS $20.00

Instagram, one of the most popular visual storytelling social media mobile apps is used by milions of people to upload and share photos and videos. For this workshop, several clues will posted to the @clubphillyforensics Instagram page to help unravel the identity of a mystery substance. Participants will need a smartphone with an Instagram app to solve the mysterious substance clues. Weeks prior to the start of the class, participants will investigate the clues posted to @clubphillyforensics. The identity of the mystery substance(s) will be revealed and discussed on the day of the workshop along with a hands-on scenario.

December 16th-MOCK TRIAL $20.00

Participants will present their results and conclusions from a scenario that includes techniques from previous workshops.


  • Dates for January 2018 to be announced, no classes in February. SPRING/SUMMER SCHEDULE WILL BE POSTED IN FEBRUARY 2018.
