Description


This training will provide a brief history of Philadelphia’s historic and storied Ballroom community. Participants will examine the racial makeup, disparities and contributions of this sector of the city’s LGBT community. Including but not limited to:

  • What is Ballroom community? Mainstream vs. Kiki Scene
  • Why is the “house” structure at the center of the Ballroom community?

In addition, this training will provide an opportunity to explore the relationship between local prevention programming (CLUB 1509) and the ballroom community. Including but not limited to:

  • What makes Ballroom Leaders important to the HIV prevention efforts?
  • Are there effective models of HIV prevention and engagement within the Ballroom community that CLUB 1509 could mirror?
  • How can CLUB 1509 support the ballroom community?
  • What are the best practices in relation to HIV prevention services within the Ball room community?
