Event description
A cloudspotting expert shows you how to identify different clouds in the sky and what they mean for weather and the earth's atmosphere.

About this Event

Gavin Pretor-Pinney, founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society, takes you on an illustrated tour of the sky. With stunning photos, nature lovers of all ages will learn how to recognize many of the varied and beautiful cloud formations, from the fair-weather cotton tufts of cumulus to the featherlike rain-predicting cirrus. Gavin also explains:

  • Why clouds look the way they do
  • How clouds reveal the invisible movements of our atmosphere.

Following Gavin's presentation, his books will be available for purchase and signing, and Fernbank Science Center will debut "The New Force 5" full-dome planetarium show.
