Event Details

A CodeRetreat is a chance to get together and practice the craft of writing code.

We'll start in the morning with breakfast and layout the mechanics for the rest of the day.

The problem we will explore is implementing Conway's Game of Life in Python.

We will break up into pairs to work on the problem for 45 minute periods. At the end of each period, we will throw away all the code, switch to new pairs and start over.

We will have two retrospectives. One while we eat lunch and another at the end of the day.

The only rule is 'Have Fun While you Learn'.

The whole point is to write code, so come prepared to do that. Bring a laptop set up with your favorite environment to write code (an editor and the language runtime should be sufficient).

We're going to write code in Python this time. (other languages aren't strictly prohibited, but it's easier if there is a standard language, at least for the first few iterations)

Anyone is welcome. If you are a novice, either as a programmer or with Python, be prepared to do your best and absorb what is going on. If you are a Python adept, be prepared to share your experience. If you are a pedantic jerk, maybe you should find something else to do that day.

(Breakfast and lunch should have vegetarian friendly choices, but let us know if you have special needs)
