Closing the Gap: Action on Inequalities in Bristol
Free viewing of The Divide followed by discussion on Making Bristol Better
Leadership and community cohesion
Monday 17 October 18:00 - 19:15 film; 19:15 - 20:00 discussion
The gap between the richest and poorest in society is getting wider. In Bristol 23% of our children still live in poverty. Unemployment, homelessness and high housing costs are making peoples’ lives a misery.
The Divide tells the story of seven individuals striving for a better life in the USA and UK, where the top 0.1 per cent owns as much wealth as the bottom 90 per cent. The film highlights the toxic effects on divided communities, where both the rich and poor struggle to live happy fulfilled lives.
The film viewing will be followed by an opportunity share ideas about how we can tackle these issues at a local level to help strengthen community bonds and make Bristol a better place to live and work.
