Closing reception for our OVER THE LINE exhibition!

About this Event

Andrea Fried’s paintings suggest traditional oval portraits, mirrors, and the egg, symbolic of origin and generation, all specific to representations of women. The background overrides the edge, suggesting not static portraiture, but continuity.

Guigui Kohon’s work, drawn from her Argentine background, explores contrasts rural and urban, natural and synthetic, past and future. Kohon’s line-drawn cityscapes imply that our bodies are encased in plots under tension; her landscapes remote places in which the spectator may travel with silent, imperceptible motion.

Joyce Werwie Perry’s hyperreal portraiture foregrounds humans living everyday lives, “photobombed” by background elements challenging the anthropomorphism of contemporary representational art. Her expressionistic manipulation of paint creates empathy for the subject, underscoring landscape’s need for human connection.

Judith Pratt’s, mixed media work challenges traditional artistic self-definition, mixing genres and materials, supporting experimentation with theme and scale. Her visual language combines 3-D form with 2-D line drawing reminiscent of wood engraving and other methods of art reproduction, undulating forms of relief maps and seismography.
