Event Details

Come see for yourself how the celebrated carriage horses of New York live and work!

This year's event features tours of both Clinton Park Stables and West Side Livery. Together, these two stables in Manhattan's famous Hell's Kitchen neighborhood house approximately 75% of our amazing carriage horses.

The Horse and Carriage Association welcomes you to an open house at Clinton Park Stables on 52nd St., followed by a bus trip down to West Side Livery on 38th St. for a chance to meet our horses, their vets, farriers and caretakers, and members of the industry.

More than half of NYC's carriage horses call Clinton Park Stables home.  Clinton Park Stables opened in 2003 in a stable that was originally built in the early 20th century to house the freight horses for a cardboard company.  The second-largest carriage stable in New York is West Side Livery, a Hell's Kitchen institution, which has housed horses since its construction in the 1860s. Like every New York City carriage stable, both stables have been modernized for the latest in urban horse-keeping.

Come climb the famous ramps for the horses who live upstairs.  Check out the sprinkler system and the misting fans... and find out how we deal with manure from keeping 150 carriage horses in the middle of midtown Manhattan.

Bring your camera and your questions! After tours of both stables, we'll have lunch at Clinton Park Stables.

This event is FREE.

Horse and Carriage Association of New York City

The Horse and Carriage Association of New York City, Inc. is a non-profit organization chartered in 2000 to promote and protect New York City’s horse-drawn carriage industry, its horses and its history. Its members include medallion owners, stable owners, drivers, industry personnel and other supporters, giving a collective voice to the iconic horses and carriages of Central Park. The drivers, workers, and small businessmen of the Horse and Carriage Association are represented by Teamsters Local 553.

What is ClipClopNYC?

ClipClopNYC is a weekend to educate people about the carriage industry in New York City and celebrate our beloved horses at home in Manhattan!  You’re invited to come to see the carriage industry in action March 22 – 24, 2013.

The idea for ClipClopNYC grew as a response to the rampant misinformation put forth by animal-rights anti-carriage-horse groups; equestrians, notably those on the Chronicle of the Horse forums, wanted to do something to 1) verify for themselves that the carriage horses of New York City receive excellent care and 2) serve as expert ambassadors to the rest of the public to teach them the truth about New York’s amazing working horses.

Horse people of all disciplines are invited to attend and get an opportunity to tour our stables and find out what it really takes to work with a horse in Central Park. The Horse and Carriage Association of New York City figures that if a picture is worth a thousand words, then being there and meeting our drivers, our vets and our farriers, our stable managers, and of course our horses is worth a million!
