** This is a ticket for a single day educational event.

Taught by local, experienced IBCLCs, our lactation education program has been built from scratch to cover all areas of the IBLCE Exam Content Outline to ensure that our attendees have a well-rounded and thorough background in human lactation. Join us in 2017, our 5th year of bringing together local individuals who are passionate about improving the quality of breastfeeding support in our community. There are NO prerequisites to attend this class and it is appropriate for any individual with a high school diploma or GED-equivalent.

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, join us for a full day of lactation education! Our Worldview class covers:

8-10:30 National & Global Breastfeeding Initiatives

10:30am-12pm WHO Code Global

1-1:30 Lunch

12:30-1:30 Communication in the Public Realm About Breastfeeding

1:30-3 Supporting Breastfeeding Families in Emergencies

3-4 Improving Breastfeeding Rates in Specific Populations

4-5:30 Surveys & Data: Tools for Change

Upon Completion, the learner will be able to:

- Identify 1 U.S.-based breastfeeding initiative and 1 global breastfeeding initiative and their potential for impact

- Name 3 separate nations impacted by the implementation of the WHO Code and how other countries can simulate the effects

- Identify 3 common communication errors that impact public understanding of breastfeeding promotion messages

- Describe 3 elements of breastfeeding support necessary to ensure safe and adequate nutrition for infants and toddlers in natural disasters and emergency situations

- Name 3 distinct populations who require separate strategies for improving breastfeeding rates and describe the strategies you would implement

- Explain the differences between 2 major survey tools commonly used in the state or nation and how they could be applied locally and globally

As always, we'll bring in the counseling skills and techniques that help build supportive relationships.

Continuing education units are offered in partnership with BreastfeedLA.

  • RNs: BreastfeedLA is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing. This course offers 10 contact hours of continuing education. Provider number is CEP 16435. Licensee must maintain certificate for a period of four years.
  • IBCLCs: BreastfeedLA is an approved Long-Term Provider by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. #CLT113-36. 1.5 E-CERPs and 7.5 L-CERPs will be provided.

Certificates for continuing education units will be provided after completion of a course evaluation, which is administered after the end of the class.
