Clinical Supervision:  Skills to Enhance Competencies

This workshop is designed to provide the most current information on supervision competence, multicultural diversity and ethical supervision, guidelines, supervisor competence, relationship, strains and ruptures and repair, professionalism, feedback, assessment, evaluation, legal and ethical aspects including internet, self-care, and management of supervisees who do not meet competence standards.

 

Upon completion of training, participants can be expected to:

1.  Describe the use of one supervision guideline to anchor supervision practice.

2.  Identify three aspects of supervisor multicultural competence.

3.  Detail one technique to identify and repair strains and ruptures to the supervisory alliance.

4.  Identify one guiding principle to proactively address value conflicts in supervision.

5.  Identify one ethical dilemma in supervision relating to social media and steps to problem solve with supervisee.

6.  Understand one legal issue in identification and remediation of behavior of a supervisee who does not meet performance criteria.

  

TRAINER, Carol Falender, PhD is co-author of Essentials of the Practice of Competency-based Clinical Supervision (2016); Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (APA, 2004); and Getting the Most Out of Clinical Supervision: A Guide for Interns and Trainees (APA, 2012) with Edward Shafranski; co-editor of Casebook for Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (APA, 2008) with Edward Shafranske, and Multiculturalism and Diversity in Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (2014) with Edward Shafranske and Celia Falicov.  Dr. Falender was a member of the Supervision Guidelines Group of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) and Chair of the Supervision Guidelines Task Force of the Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) of APA. She directed APA approved internship programs at child and family guidance clinics for over twenty years.  Dr. Falender is a Fellow of the American Psychology Association (APA) and was President of Division 37, Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice (APA). She is an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University, Clinical Professor in the UCLA Department of Psychology, Co-Chair of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association Ethics Committee, and Chair of the California Psychological Association Continuing Education Committee. 

 

Check-in, continental breakfast begin at 8:30am; Training from 9:00am - 4:00pm

 

Continental Breakfast and coffee provided.  Lunch is on your own. 

 

Off-Site Parking:  Street Parking is available surrounding the Otis Booth Campus.  Please observe parking signs; note that upstairs lots are for red and green tagged vehicles only.  Aside from street parking, CII has now secured a nearby parking lot for guests and training attendees.  The address is - 411 Rosenell Terrace, Los Angeles, CA 90026.  For handicap parking or any other special needs, please contact the Training Center directly at AHapuarachy@childrensinstitute.org to make arrangements.  


Continuing Education Credits: up to 6 credits available for PSY, MFT, and LCSW's
APA: Children’s Institute, Inc. is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Children’s Institute, Inc. maintains responsibility for this program and its content.  The California Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) now recognizes APA continuing education credit for license renewal for LCSWs and MFTs.

 

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY:

By registering for this training the agency is liable for the registration fee, which is fully refundable up to December 8, 2017. Registration is transferrable prior to the start of the training.  Once the training begins, fees are non-refundable/transferrable and no partial refunds will be given.
