The “Zero Suicide” Alliance promotes four large mental health system projects that have dramatically reduced and even eliminated suicide. The key clinical practices in “Zero Suicide” are presented in this training for clinicians and community first responders.
Module 1. (Morning) Emotional and Strategic Management of Suicide Risk.
Pain vs. Lethal Risk, Deconstructing the Suicidal Crisis, Acquired Capability, the Emotional Task, Compassion Fatigue, Personality Disorders, Reducing Stress by Focusing on Action, Intensive Treatments & Documentation to Reduce Liability.
Module 2. (Morning). Deconstructing Crises, Safety Planning and Developing Crisis Skills
Build crisis awareness and crisis management skills. Reduce suicide risk through family-friend networks and means reduction. Multiple examples.
Module 3. (Afternoon) Suicide Assessment
Risk Assessment and Triage, Triage Screening Methods, and the Core Suicide Risk System© (Thoughts, Protective Factors and Key Clinical Variables). Videos and examples from clinical practice.
Module 4. (Afternoon). Brief Cognitive Therapy for Suicidality
Learn the basic skills involved in thought and belief assessment, chaining, skill development, targeting specific thoughts, challenging irrational beliefs, and maintaining skills over time.
