Event Details

Course Description:

Staff will learn how to view client's diagnosis (both Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder) symptoms, trauma reactions and their own countertransference through the lens of various medicine wheels and the 5 levels of Truth. Training will focus on clinical techniques from a Native American perspective to assess what  is needed for balance and healing, and to foster a deeper sense of agency throughout the treatment process. These teachings empower both staff, treatment teams, and clients to be a casual force in both the therapeutic process and their own lives. Trainings are experiential, didactic and feature interactive learning in a traditional Native American format.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn this material in an immersive traditional Native American learning experience.

2. Participants will develop an understanding about Medicine Wheels and practice applying them to a variety of clinical contexts (to include Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder treatment, trauma treatment and disordered eating treatment), to expand treatment resources and techniques.

3. Participants will learn the 5 levels of Truth, how this model compares to Stages of Change and Motivational Interviewing, and when to use it in a variety of clinical contexts.

4. Participants will have the opportunity to integrate and apply these new skills to their own clinical case examples.
