Event description

Description

What is Ecotherapy?

Ecotherapy allows clinicians a framework in which to offer nature-based therapies to their clients. Decades of research clearly demonstrates the positive effect nature has on mental health and well-being. Integrating nature as a co-therapist into the therapeutic process allows clinicians unique and holistic opportunities for exploring insight, growth, and healing.

Participants can expect to:

  • Receive a variety of ecotherapy techniques to use with individual clients, both indoors and outdoors
  • Have many opportunities to practice ecotherapy approaches and techniques
  • Experience what an ecotherapy session feels like for clients
  • Enjoy opportunities for networking and connecting with like-minded therapists who share a desire to bring the natural world into clients' healing and growth
  • Enjoy restorative and relaxing time in nature for personal and professional nourishment
  • Become a part of a growing network of Austin-area ecotherapists

You will also:

  • Set yourself and your practice apart
  • Be able to offer your individual clients more variety and a unique approach
  • Be able to immediately begin offering ecotherapy to your clients
  • Become a part of an innovative, creative field which is thriving in other states and countries, yet is newly emerging in Texas
  • Learn an approach which lets you enjoy working outside!

Do I need to have prior ecotherapy training or experience?

Because this is an advanced training, we highly recommend participants have some basic understanding and familiarity with the field of ecotherapy. This can include: participating in ecotherapy certificate programs, classes, conferences, webinars, or other training opportunities; attending ecotherapy retreats; or reading a variety of clinical ecotherapy books.

One option for receiving prior training is to participate in the full-day CEU training retreat on Clinical Ecotherapy on October 26th at McKinney Roughs (7 CEUs). Participants who sign up for both training retreats will receive a 10% discount for the Introduction to Clinical Ecotherapy training in October. Alternatively, if you would rather read a variety of books to prepare for the advanced training, we recommend the following: Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind (Buzzell & Chalquist); Nature and Therapy: Understanding Counselling and Psychotherapy in Outdoor Spaces (M. Jordan); and With Nature in Mind: The Ecotherapy Manual for Mental Health Professionals (A. McGeeney).

Open to all professionals, interns, and counseling students.

Limited to 12 participants.

One diversity scholarship available for a professional, student, or intern who either is part of an underrepresented community (a person of color, LGBTQ+, etc.) or who works with an underrepresented community.
