Clinical Competency and Ethics in Mental Health Practice
Clinical competence in mental health practice is difficult to define and even more difficult to measure.
Although clinical competence is crucial to providing safe, effective, and ethical client care, there is no standard definition of the concept.
How do we know if we have the clinical expertise to treat a particular client who walks into our office?
What is our ethical obligation to inform clients where our expertise begins and ends?
Where does transference fit in?
This workshop will be highly experiential. Participants will:
- Analyze real life dilemmas
- Assess their clinical skill sets
- Develop ethically sound referral practices
- Analyze their current pre-screening practices
