Event description


This is an intermediate holistic feeding course with emphasis on development of skills for effective assessment and treatment of common pediatric feeding difficulties in the outpatient, early intervention and school based settings, as well as an appreciation for the physiological processes through which children develop their feeding skills and
precipitous events which may impact the pediatric feeding population. This course will incorporate opportunities
for lecture based learning, video analysis, case studies, and group learning.


This is an intermediate level workshop designed for OTs, OTAs, SLPs, and SLPAs in community practice (clinics, schools, birth to three programs). No prerequisites are required.

Instructional Methods

Lecture segment: presentation with question and clinical discussion.

Lab segment: clinical video review/activity analysis/collaborative guided treatment planning

The Impact of Prematurity and Inpatient Care on Feeding (JG, CS)

1) Identify 2 procedures in NICU care which affect infant/child feeding skills

2) Describe 2 strategies taught to families for carryover after discharge

Feeding Anatomy and Development (KB)

1) List 2 differences between infant and child anatomy that effect eating

2) List 2 discrete oral motor skills and the ages they typically occur

Breastfeeding Challenges (JK)

1) Identify 2 challenges nursing mothers and their babies often face

2) Identify 2 indications of a possible need for referral to a lactation consultant

Common GI Complaints (WS)

1) Identify two diagnoses which can result from a GI consult

2) Identify two diagnostic tools often used in GI exams Interventions for Behavioral, Sensory, and Anxious Eaters ;

Goal Development Lab (Faculty)

1) Identify 2 strategies to increase children’s tolerance of tactile and oral sensory stimulation

2) Identify 1 performance component deficit in clinical pediatric feeding case study

3) Identify 2 next steps in down grading or up grading pediatric feeding treatment activities

What's the refund policy?


Cancellations must be requested in writing 7 days prior to the event to receive a 100% refund. There will be no refund for cancellations received later. If participants register and do not attend, they are still responsible for full payment. Participants should send refund requests to: pediatricfeeding2019@gmail.com

Connecticut Children’s will process the participants refund within 10 business days from the day the request is received.

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center reserves the right to cancel a seminar and will refund in full the registration fee only

What do I need to know before the course?

We will send a link to downloadable conference materials and information via e-mail prior to the course date.

Dress comfortably. We try to keep the conference rooms comfortable for everyone but if you tend to get chilly you may want to have a sweater.
