Event description

Description

Extreme weather events and sea level rise impact our coastal communities in many ways, both expected and unexpected. Knowing what neighborhoods and what infrastructure in our communities are at risk from these impacts is an important first step in planning for a resilient future.

In this interactive 2-hour session trainers will lead the group in a hands-on demonstration of vulnerability assessment and adaptation tools using Bowdoin College computers (or if you prefer, you can bring your own). You will leave equipped to use online vulnerability assessment tools and to help your community identify areas that are most at risk from coastal storm events and sea level rise.

Facilitators:

  • Gayle Bowness, Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Preparing Coastal Communities for Sea Level Rise

  • Abbie Sherwin, Southern Maine Planning & Development Commission, Maine's Flood Resilience Checklist

  • Jeremy Bell or designee, The Nature Conservancy, and Eileen Johnson, Bowdoin College, The Maine Coastal Resilience Tool

This is a free event. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

There are two sessions on the same day: 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Please register for one sesson. Space is limited! More detailed directions and additional information will be sent out to registrants via email before the event.

Thank you to the Maine Coastal Program and EPA for funding for this event, and to Eileen Johnson and Bowdoin College for providing the venue.

Event hosted by Casco Bay Estuary Partnership and New England Environmental Finance Center.
