Climate Solutions Webinar Series - Flying in a climate emergency

Online event
YCAN is delighted to host Mark Carter, founder of Flight Free Australia, to present a free community webinar.
About this event
Flight Free Australia is a small group of ordinary, concerned Australians who came together in 2019 through a website which showed how aviation emissions were impacting global heating.
In this webinar, Mark will share with the community his thoughts on flying in a climate emergency, and discuss the current campaign opposing the 3rd runway at Melbourne Airport. He will also share practical take-away actions for attendees.
Attendees are encouraged to bring along issues that they confront when travelling and where they are uncertain as to what the best (climate-informed) choice would be. This will be an opportunity not only to learn from Mark, but also from each other.
Registered participants for this webinar will be sent a secure Zoom link on the day prior to the event.
Mark Carter wrote “The elephant in the sky, the hazards of aviation emissions and how we can avoid them”, then helped set up the Flight Free Australia campaign in 2019 to raise awareness of aviation’s little acknowledged contribution to the climate emergency. For the last 12 months he’s been a Flight Free member of the No 3rd Tulla Runway campaign coalition.
Flight Free Australia's goals are to:
- Raise awareness about the dangers of greenhouse gas emissions from aviation during the climate emergency
- Address aviation injustice by building public support at the grass roots and
- Support international and national policies to rapidly transition away from air travel, making aviation emissions zero by 2030 or sooner.
