Description

Please join us on Saturday April 15th @ 3pm for a provocative presentation by Dr. Sonja Klinsky, who has attended the UNFCCC as an observer for several years and is a current Senior Sustainability Scientist at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University.
Climate change raises a wide variety of questions about justice that cut across core challenges already facing Americans, in addition to communities worldwide. In this talk she will provide an overview of the moral questions raised by climate change that relate to other existing issues including: 1) environmental justice and the increased vulnerability of low income, minority and indigenous communities to poor industrial regulation in the US and elsewhere; 2) concerns about climate impacts on vulnerable populations in high-risk areas in the US and elsewhere; 3) harms to future generations, including to children currently alive who are very likely to face concrete climate-related threats locally, nationally and globally; and 4) strategies for equitably sharing the effort of addressing climate change so that climate policies do not harm those who are least well off.
