Event description
Join other young people to build skills and solutions in taking climate action in your community!

About this Event

Join us on February 25, 2020 for an interactive afternoon of youth-led climate discussion and collaboration!

We would like to acknowledge that we are located on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, Metis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant community. Climate change disproportionately affects Indigenous youth, and creating opportunities for inclusive and intersectional action is critically important.

---

Youth feel burdened by the complex challenges across local, national, and international scales. Solutions often seem all at once available, but disconnected from the priorities of decision-makers.

What does it look like to bring a group of youth together, invested in a diversity of priorities, under the urgency of climate change? We’re working together to #movetheneedle towards a low-carbon Canada. Join the conversation by engaging with our digital campaign or by attending one of our upcoming Youth Policy Jams to meet like-minded individuals and learn how to take climate action in your community.

We invite youth to join Youth Climate Lab, alongside the City of Edmonton to learn how you can engage in climate action, and learn more about how the City is updating Edmonton’s Energy Transition Strategy to align with the international target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Let’s move the needle together toward a low-carbon Canada.

This event is open to youth ages 18 – 30.

For all participants, a photo release form will be presented upon sign in.

At the Jam, you will:

  • Participate in a design-thinking process applied to policy so that you can problem-frame, ideate and create recommendations for your community.
  • Contribute ideas and solutions to the update of Edmonton’s Energy Transition Strategy.
  • Sharpen your communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills when it comes to taking climate action.
  • Join a community of individuals committed to taking action.

This event is organized as part of Youth Climate Lab’s Moving the Needle Campaign, a national collaboration to mobilize youth across the country to work towards a low-carbon Canada. Learn more at https://www.youthclimatelab.org/youth-policy-jams.

The Policy Jam is a proven model of youth engagement that has been tested at various national and international-level policy processes, namely for the G7 Environment Ministers Meeting, national consultation for Canada’s 2030 Agenda Strategy, and the UN Youth Climate Summit.

Excited to Jam with you!
